Fred Savage’s grandfather, the frumpy, rumpled old man who had an unhealthy penchant of reading stories to young boys died at the spry age of 83.

He was investigating a murder, playing a sort of cat-and-mouse with the murderer…. where the mouse won.

Peter Falk suffered from Alzheimer’s as evidenced whenever he was about to leave the room and turned around saying, “just one more thing.”

Falk played Frank Columbo in two TV movies that proved so popular, they spun it into a TV show that ran from 1971 to 1978 and again from 1989 to 2003.  And no, Columbo did not have a Cockatoo.  That was Baretta.

Bing Crosby was originally offered the role but refused it because he felt it would have affected his golf game (no, really).  Damn, that would’ve been a different show:  “Come on kids, let’s go solve a murder.  And who knows, maybe we’ll sing a song or two.”

Falk also appeared in the classic movies “Murder by Death,” “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” and “The Great Muppet Caper.”

When reached for comment, Fred Savage was overwhelmed with emotion, “You’re calling…me?  No one’s called me for, like, ten years!”

Falk will be buried in a ratty old raincoat with half a cigar hanging out of his mouth.  His hair will not be brushed.

This hit goes to…. Hells-to-the-yeah!  ME!  That’s right, Bean, I’m only 200 points behind!  I can taste your fear!… or is that coffee?

Anyway, any non-Mead hit is a good one in my book!

Happy pooling,

SPMI
