Folk singer and writer of such classics as “We Shall Overcome,” “Home on the Range,” Goodnight, Irene,” and “Turn, Turn, Turn,” and dirty rotten Commie, Pete Seeger, died at the spry age of 94.

The Greatest American hero, no not William Katt, but Senator Joseph McCarthy indicted “Pete the Pinko” for contempt of Congress.  This led to Seeger being blacklisted.  Seeger probably didn’t mind.  He went on to record over 100 albums, but he never wanted to be a star… that and he was a socialist fiend.

But despite his treasonous record, and the fact that he stood against all that is good and true, Seeger, like all folk music, was basically wholesome.

Sometimes you can just look at a guy and know he’s a pacifist.

No, unlike rock stars, he never spiraled out of control under the influence of drugs and alcohol.   While being as anti-American and Michael Moore smoking pot with a married gay couple at a Grateful Dead concert, folk music never encouraged violence.

That’s the difference between Good ‘ol all-American rock-n-roll and propaganda-infused folk.  While they tell you how to hate America, as near as I can remember, the Manson Family never scribed in blood on a wall “Skip to My Loo.”

In the 50s, when called in front of the House of Un-American Activities (also known as HUAC, which was coincidentally the name of a failed vacuum line from the 60s), he refused to take the 5th.  A young Oliver North watched from home in utter disgust.

Instead he babbled on with something like, “I am not going to answer any questions as to my association, my philosophical or religious beliefs or my political beliefs, or how I voted in any election, or any of these private affairs. I think these are very improper questions for any American to be asked, especially under such compulsion as this.”

Can you believe this guy?  Doesn’t he know that the government is entitled to know everything about everyone?  This is the American Tradition NSA continues to work so hard to preserve to this day.

Seeger openly supported Stalin!  I mean, how awful a human being can you be?  Sure he recanted his support when he found out that Stalin was, as he put it, a “supremely cruel misleader.”  But the point is: he was once wrong about something!  Let’s not forget that!

This hit goes to Gianna, who has been drafting Seeger for years now.  Well, her dedication has paid off in the form of 10 points and pads her lead.

News reports continue to say nothing about the health of Nancy Reagan… damn.

Happy pooling,
