NBC announcer Don Pardo die at the spry age of 96.

Don Pardo was one of two people to have a lifetime contract with NBC (the other being Bob Hope).  His contract recently expired.

A member of the Television Hall of Fame, Pardo was noted for his 70-year tenure with NBC, working as the announcer for early incarnations of such notable shows as The Price Is Right, Jackpot, Jeopardy!, Three on a Match, Winning Streak and NBC Nightly News.

When he announced for Jeopardy! the host was Art Fleming, who was much less of a dick than Alex Trebek.

It was Pardo’s voice that broke the news that Kennedy was shot on NBC.  They showed an NBC Television Station title card

because this was the age before the 24-hour news cycle and there wasn’t 10 cameras constantly on the president at all times. And the one camera that really caught the essence of the moment was not shown because America had not yet built up it’s appetite for constant and immediate video feed.  That and it was gross… Back and to the left.  Back and to the left.

His longest, and best-known, announcing gig was for NBC’s Saturday Night Live, a job he held for 39 seasons, from the show’s debut in 1975 until his death.  In that time, he got to introduce such greats as Tim Kazurinsky, Terry Sweeney, Gary Kroeger, Melanie Hutsell, Chris Kattan and Tony Rosato.

But Pardo’s biggest break came in 1984, when he appeared in the Weird Al song, “I Lost on Jeopardy!”  This is how he will always be remembered.  Ghoul Pool sources have found out that his grave stone will read: Weird Al, I was nothing until you came along.  …or something like that.

This hot goes to…. Tailgating with Jesus?  Pardo wasn’t a sports announcer…. what the hell?

Well, now Bean’s only 50 points behind the leader.

Happy pooling,
