Doctor Martin Perl, the physicist who helped us define what all matter is made of (the answer: stuff) died at the spy age of 87.

He also invented the Perl Necklace.  Barbara Bush is beside herself with grief.

Perl, like the rest of us, thought that there had to me more to this world than two types of leptons: electrons and muons.  I think it was when a colleague once asked him, “Hey, man, what’s the matter?”

So he set out to see what matter was.  What he discovered was the Tau Lepton.  It really wasn’t that hard, it was in the library, right next to “The Tau of Pooh.”

Perl, shown here pointing to a Tau Lepton.

But he shocked the scientific world with this perl of wisdom, and it was three years before anyone else believed him.  Before the swine and run out of town on a rail, he found himself  friendless, helpless, hopeless and unemployed, in Greenland.

He was found by a man names Vizzini who tried to use his data to start a war.  The plan didn’t work, but it gave Perl some serious cred.  His data later helped lead to the completion of the Standard Model, used by physicists to explain the structure of matter.

Dr. Perl shared the Nobel with Frederick Reines, a physicist from the University of California Irvine credited with leading the discovery of the neutrino, which is what gives us nutrients.

This hit goes to: Good to the Last Drop (© Maxwell House)!  Sweetie Pie picked this guy right toward the end.  He is elevated to 80 points, a mere 110 points behind the leader!

NOTE:  Draft Night is on November 1st!  Please let me know if you plan on coming.  Seriously now.  And if you are coming from quite a way away, I need to know right now,

Happy pooling,
