Little Rascal, Dick “Dickie” Moore died at the spry age of 89.

As a baby, a casting director spotted him at 11 months and wanted him for a scene in the film “The Beloved Rogue” starring John Barrymore.  His father didn’t want to put his little Dick in a movie (who would?), but he was also dirt poor.

Dick went on to star in the “Our Gang” shorts as one of the Little Rascals.  It was long rumored that Bill Cosby bought the rights to all of the Little Rascals shorts to keep it’s racist portrayals of blacks off the air.  But the truth is: Quaaludes are pricy, so his money was already tied up in his other hobbies.

Moore’s success made it even moore difficult for his father to find work because employers assumed the family was swimming in money. Moore was the de facto breadwinner (because he made moore money), which was not unusual for child actors of the era.  Yet it was still very demasculating for a father.  Who knew that his little Dick could make so much money?

“All of us shared common lives, huge responsibilities and salaries that shriveled fathers’ egos,” he wrote in his 1984 book

"Daddy, youuu can make the rules when youuu pay the bills."

“Daddy, youuu can make the rules when youuu can pay the bills.”

about child actors, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star (and Don’t Have Sex or Take the Car).”  Best.  Book title.  Ever.

Moore was so used to the limelight by the time he was six that when he sent a birthday card to his mother, he signed it, “Your friend, Dickie Moore.”  He didn’t get along with his father, so Dad only got “regards” from his little Dick.

Moore caused a sensation in the 1942 “Miss Annie Rooney,” when he gave Shirley Temple her first on-screen romantic kiss. (She was 13 when the film debuted, he was 16). Even though it was just a peck on the cheek, it made headlines.  Insert a “My-how-times-have-changed-slash-Miley-Cyrus-licking-a-hammer-joke” here.

Moore hated acting so he moved to New York, he appeared in some plays and became involved in actors’ unions, eventually opening a PR agency to represent them. Moore became known as a show-business insider, so much so that he had a regular, prominent booth at Sardi’s.  Well whoop-dee-friggin’-doo.

When writing his book which, again, has the greatest title ever of  “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star (and Don’t Have Sex or Take the Car),” he interviewed Shirley Temple.  “I was afraid she’d barely remember me,” he told AP. “But when she opened the door, the first thing she did was point to her cheek and say, ‘Kiss me there, like last time.’ ”  Then she said something about Mr. DeMille and being ready for a close-up.

Dickie was 5 days away from hitting 90, which would have made him 10 points instead of 20.  Those five days mean a lot to Mostly Mike, who doubles his score to 40 points!

Me thinks he should team back up with Dawn next year.

Nancy Reagan, somehow, continues to live.

Happy pooling,

SPMI

PS: Draft night is just 54 days away!
