We all knew this day would come.  Many hoped and prayed that it would happen sooner.  Babysitter has been paying three Tibetan monks to chant and pray for this on a 24 hour loop… I have lost my lead in the Ghoul Pool.

Pat Harrington Jr., Snyder from the 70s sitcom “One Day at a Time,” died at the spry age of 85.

For those not familiar with the show, it’s about a recently divorced mother with the worst haircut ever and her two daughters (a young Valerie Bertinelli and a coked-up Mackenzie Phillips).

Harrington played their rough-and tumble, roll-a-pack-of-smokes-into-my-tee-shirt-sleeve Super, Dwayne Snyder, who apparently stole the show because they came up with constant reasons for the super to be in this apartment with three women.  Episode one, he gives them their keys.  Episode two, the shower leaks.  Episode three, the lock on the door sticks, episode four, the floor falls into the apartment below.  Episode five, the window got stuck.  Episode six… I don’t know, a fire that kills five people.

Harrington played Snyder for nine seasons…. wait a second…. that show was on for nine seasons?  You would think that more people would know

One Day At A Time

From the looks of this it’s less about a divorcee striking it on her own… and more about the Super who continually intrudes on her life.

this show.

But Pat was so much more than just Snyder.  He had a rich, full career filled with classics.

In 1969, he was featured in “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.”  In ‘68, he starred in “The Great Dane Robbery.”  In 1972, he played one of the Three Stooges on “The New Scooby-Doo Movies.”  He played William Shakesbear in “Yo Yogi!”  In 1987, he set the world in fire with “The Garfield Christmas Special.”

William friggin’ Shakesbear!

This hit goes to my lovely wife who takes the lead from her loving, doting husband.  Even though I do all the dishes, I give nightly foot-massages and I don’t watch Sportscenter… she still steals the lead from me.

Nancy Reagan, somehow, still continues to live.

Happy pooling,

SPMI
