Punky actor from “The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd,” George Gaynes died at the spry age of 98.

Gaynes is another one of those actors that, when you see him, you go: “oh yeah, that guy…”

He was born in Finland and raised in France, England and Switzerland… I guess his parents were on the run from Interpol or something.

He went from starring in opera to the broadway stage, to “Tootsie,” to… “Punky Brewster” and “Police Academy.”  Talk about bottoming out.

In 1982, he kept trying to kiss Dustin Hoffman.  Of course, Hoffman did have everyone convinced that he was a female soap star.

In 1984, he was imbued with Punky Power!

He went back and forth for a few years, working on Punky Brewster and Police Academy movies (he was in all seven of those pieces of crap).

“It was a personal hell,”  He shared in a 2001 interview.  “I don’t know who I hated more, That stupid Moon-girl or that asshole Steve Guttenberg.  That ass-hammer kept shouting

gaynes

“Somebody, get this fucking thing off of me!”

out ‘My time is now!’ like some kind of fucking idiot.”

No amount of Punky Power could help make the Police Academy movies funny though.  I would say that they kept getting worse as they went… but by number four, I would think that they would have to have reached a level of shityness that couldn’t go lower.  They could only sustain the shittyness.  A sort of shit-stasis.

By 1987, Punky Power had all but abandoned him as he worked on “The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd.”  This was a show that proved that critics aren’t always right.  Critics LOVED this show.  The rest of the world saw what an utter carp-factory it was.

Maybe they just liked David Strathairn so much that they ignored the rest.  I mean, I could couldn’t blame them.  The man is phenomenal.

The Girl on Fire makes a small Gayne of 10 points with this hit!  She is now at 60 and a mere 40 points behind the leader.

Nancy Reagan, somehow, still continues to live.

Happy pooling,

SPMI
