Player of the dreaded game, basketball, who went on to work as an executive, Jerry West, died at the spry age of 86.
A star for the Los Angeles Lakers for 14 years, in his second career in management he built two separate dynastic Laker teams, turned around the struggling Memphis Grizzlies, and played a part in the run of success of the Golden State Warriors.
I am going to take the time, as I always do, to point out that Los Angeles is not known for its lakes.
West’s greatest accomplishment was becoming the NBA logo. He was the model for the silhouette in between the red and blue. This led to his enduring nickname, “The Logo”.
What a dumb-ass nickname.
Before The Logo, his nickname was “The Clutch.” Which is much better. I assume it’s because he always drove stick.
